center fielder is eligible to return from the 15-day disabled list Monday, but it , reports. Jackson has not participated in physical activity yet.

"I want it right," Tigers manager Jim Leyland told "We talked about that today: 'Get it right.' I don't want him to come back 85 percent and try to play and then do it again. Try to get it as close to 100 percent as you can. You might not get it to 100 percent. Who knows."

Jackson strained his left hamstring nearly two weeks affled by Atletico Madrid's negative tactics at Anfield on Wednesday. It paid off for Diego Simeone as his side knocked out the Champions League holders with a 3-2 victory. And Klopp was clearly annoyed with the opposition's tactics when speaking afterago and last week seemed to be on track to make it back when first eligible. He has .272/.333/.371 with two home runs and five stolen bases in 16 plate appearances this season.

Let's hand out some grades for teams and players with an eye on those early-week series that have already been concluded ...

TeamGradeAnalysisASpecifically, Yu Darvish gets the A. Sure, it was the Astros across the we after their Supercoppa triumph over Juventus in Riyadh. They had already lifted the Coppa Italia in May with a victory over Atalanta and defeated Juventus in 2017 to take the Super Cup."It is a thoroughly deserved victory from a team that played witay, but in your first start of the season is "A" work regardless of context.B+White Sox pitching. Hitter's park, potentially solid opposing lineup -- no problem. All three starters turned in a quality start, and the bullpen has yet to allow a run. CIf you're the 2013 Astros, then there's no shame in a C. It's the pitching staff that gets a C for posting a three-game ERA of 4.33 against the vastly superior Rangers. If it were all about the rotation, then they'd get a healthy B+, as Houston starters are responsible for just 4 of the team's 13 runs allowed.DWe're singling out the Pirates' offense for this low mark. Over the course of the three-game home set with the Cubs, the Bucs hit a combined .144/.222/.189. When your OPS would make a below-average SLG, you're not hitting. The oddity is that they actually put up better offensive numbers than the Cubs did.FWe knew the MarliDonetsk goalkeeper Andrei Pyatov insists they're capable of beating Champions League opponents Manchester City.Shakhtar host the English champions tonight.Pyatov said, "I am not a soothsayer, but I know that Shakhtar always plays for victory. • Titans GM determined to re-sign Derrick Henry following running back’s career year

running back is coming off of a career year in which he rushed for 1,540 yards and 16 touchdowns while averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Now an unrestricted free agent, the Titans have victory parade around the city. The Reds beat Tottenham at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid to join the classes of 1977, 1978,lub this summer. Werner is out of contract in 2020 and has been linked with Liverpool and Bayern Munich. And Rangnick has confirmed Leipzig they will look to sell the Germany international."Our position is that if he does not renew the contract, he sh 1981, 1984 and 2005. Liverpool will fly back to Liverpool John Lennon Airport on Saturday night. But it won't until 4pm tha a big decision to make regarding his future.

Recent history indicates that resetting the market by giving a running back big money is not always smart, and while Henry carried the Titans to the AFC Championship Game, it's unknown if Tennessee would be willing to make him the highest-paid running back in the league.

During media availability on Tuesday ahead of the combine, Titans general manager Jon Robinson sounded determined to work out a deal to keep Henry in Nashville.

"Derrick had a great year for us," Robinson said, . "I mean he led the league in rushing, he built off the second half of the 2018 season that he had, he cares about his teammates, he works hard, he's great in the community and we're going to work through that one and do everything we can to try to keep him around."

Henry stepped up his game as the 2019 season went on. He recorded just one 100-yard rushing game in the first nine weeks, but recorded five 100-yard rushing games in his last six regular-season games. As Robinson mentioned, Henry's 1,540 rushing yards led the NFL in the regular season, and he took his game to yet another level in the playoffs. In three postseason games, Henry rushed for 446 yards, two touchdowns and he even threw a touchdown pass.

The former second-round pick proved that he is capable and confident in being the focal point of an offense, and it sounds like the Titans are willing to open their checkbook to keep him.

Interestingly enough, the Titans also have a big decision to make at quarterback. went 10-3 as a starter this season, and is now an unrestricted a free agent who is sure to generate some interest on the open market.

"We'll see how that goes," Robinson said, . "His contract is up. We'll have those contract negotiations with a lot of our players. Like I said, I'd likh the visit of Serie A team Parma to Turf Moor and two second-half strikes earned them a 2-0 success. With just seven days before the start of the Premier League campaign this would be the last chance for Clarets boss Sean Dyche to see his players in e to keep as many of those guys on the team as possible."

The Titans would surely like to keep both players heading into 2020, but it sounds like we know which one Robinson would rather have.

  • Music City Bowl: Time, TV channel, 2020 NFL Draft prospects to watch in Mississippi State vs. Louisville

Mississippi State cornerback Cam Dantzler and Louisville offensive tackle Mekhi Becton, both with Top 50 potential, have decided to sit out this year's Music City Bowl, but there are still NFL draft prospects to watch. The Bulldogs will showcase their electric running back and the Cardinals have an experienced and nimble center in the middle of their blocking unit.

We're going game by game to let you know exactly who you should watch to get ready for the 2020 . You can read more about this matchup and .

    How to watch

    Monday, Dec. 30 |  4 p.m. ET Nissan Stadium (Nashville, Tennessee)ESPN

    Mississippi StateKylin Hill, RB

Hill is a smaller, fire hydrant of a back who runs as hard as any ball carrier in this class. There's good wiggle to his game and his contact balance is above-average. He's just really difficult to bring to the turf despite his lack of size. His receiving talents make him an intriguing scat-back option. Hill has snagged 39 passes for 350 yards.

He's not a burner but shows good acceleration through the second level of the defense. He should hear his name called early on Day 3 and a strong combine could catapult him to Day 2.

    LouisvilleT.J. McCoy, OC

He's capable of reaching defensive tackles across a gap, which is a vital skill for a center to have.

He's not particularly powerful, and McCoy can bend at the waist, but in general, he plays with low pad level and a good anchor.

  • Le’Veon Bell believes his lack of success with Jets comes down to a lack of touches

Patience is one of the traits prides himself on, both on and off the field. Bell, whose patient running style led to enormous success during his time with the , way Jose Mourinho.Emery was defiant when asked about the possibility of being replaced by Jose Mourinho after seeing his Arsenal side let a lead slip for the fourth game in a row as they were pegged back by Vitoria.Mourinho's presence in the reverse Eus then patient with regard to signing his longterm contract. He sat out the entire 2018 season before signing a lucrative deal with the as an unrestricted free agent this past offseason.

While he is remaining patient when it comes to his slow start with his new team, Bell -- who rushed for just 589 yards while averaging 3.2 yards per carry during the Jets' first 12 games -- wants to start having more of an impact on the outcome of his team's games. Bell said as much during the latest edition of his joint podcast, . Bell, who missed the Jets' Week 14 win over the with an illness, explained the main reason behind his lack of success during his first season in New York while also offering a solution.

"I've been playing in this league for a long time. I've always been kinda used to like, getting the ball 20, 25, 30 times," said Bell, who led the with 321 rushing attempts during his final season in Pittsburgh. "Because that's what my body can handle and that's the type of player I've always been. Even in college, at Michigan State, I was getting the ball that much.

"I go to the NFL, it's been the same thing. Isn't it funny this year, because it hasn't happened. I understand (the) ofS Monaco vice president Vadim Vasilyev says he could get Artem Dzyuba a move to England. The Zenit St Petersburg striker has signed with super agent Jorge Mendes to get himself a Premier League transfer.Everton, West Ham and Wolves have all been linkefense is starting got come together, and guys are starting to learn, we got a new system, and new players up front and we got new coaches and things like that. But I think, for me, I would love to put the game on my back and take games over. I haven't had one of those games this year yet. But a lot of people don't think I'm the same player or I can't do that. That's because I haven't had the opportunity to really show. As time goes on, we'll get better, we'll find a way to make things shake."

Bell is right. He averaged just 15.3 carries and slightly fewer than 20 touches per game during his first 12 games with the Jets. Conversely, Bell, a three-time Pro Bowler, and two-time All-Pro, average 19.8 carries and just under 25 touches in 62 regular-season games in Pittsburgh. Bell received a larger workload in four postseason games with the Steelers, averaging 25 carries and 31.3 touches in his three full playoff games in Pittsburgh.

The extended workload, however, particularly in the 2016 playoffs, eventually took its toll on Bell. After rushing for 167 and 170 yards in Pittsburgh's first two playoff games, Bell left the 2016 AFC Championship Game with a groin injury early in the second quarter. During his five active seasons in Pittsburgh, Bell sustained a season-ending injury three times while missing out on Pittsburgh's 2014 and '15 playoff appearances. While two of his injuries did not have anything to do with his workload, questions Bell's history of injuries is likely one of the main reasons why his market value was not as high as he likely hoped it would be entering free agency. His age (he'll be 28 in February) and the fact that he sat out an entire year likely didn't help his market value, either.

Bell was also on target when discussing the pieces around him. He is no longer surrounded by a future Hall of Fame quarterback and this decade's most productive receiver. Bell is also no longer playing behind an offensive line that boasts three ProPedro Ruiz to a new contract. The centre-forward, standing at 1.97m, was born and raised in Seville and has signed terms to 2022.Pedro, 19, has been likened to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and had been a regular with Raul's Castilla team this season. The youngst Bowlers, something he had during his time with the Steelers. Instead, Bell is now playing with a second-year quarterback, a weaker offensive line and a receiving corps that pales in comparison to the ones that he played with as a member of the Steelers. Until the Jets' offensive weapons surrounding him improve, Bell will likely continue to struggle to have the success he found with the Steelers.

That being said, Bell is still hopeful that things will turn around in New York. Last month, despite rumors of the Jets nearly trading him before the deadline, Bell talked about his desire to remain with the Jets while promising better days ahead for himself and the franchise. Bell's optimism has been somewhat realized during the second half of the season, as the Jets are 4-1 in their last five games entering this Sunday's road game against the . And despite his team's 5-8 record, Bell is not giving up on his team's playoff chances, recalling the events of his rookie season as the reason why.

"I've seen weirder things happen in the NFL, so until we're like, officially eliminated from the playoffs, I always kinda got hope," he said. "My rookie year with the Pittsburgh Steelers, we were 7-8, and then we played the in the last game. We had to win that game and we had to hope the won their game. The Chiefs had a game-winning field goal, it was like a 35-yarder or something. The Chiefs' kicker missed it, and that's how we missed the playoffs. So, at 8-8, we would have been in the playoffs as a wild card team. So I've seen teams make the playoffs at 7-9. I'm always optimistic. I'm not gonna say we're eliminated until it's official."

  • Sam Bradford ruled out of Week 6 game vs. Packers, Vikings’ top receiver also out

For the fourth time in five weeks, the won't have starting quarterback on the field for their game on Sunday.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer has announced that Bradford won't be available for the team's Week 6 ga has expressed his disappointment over Ruben Loftus-Cheek's latest injury.Southgate had included Loftus-Cheek in his squad for the Nations League semi-final against the Netherlands. But the midfielder is now expected to be sidelined for a lengthy spelme against the . Bradford has been dealing with a knee injury for most of the season that's already caused him to miss three games.

After missing Weeks 2 thru 4, Bradford attempted to make a comeback in Week 5 against the , but that comeback didn't last long. Although he was tt has to work on his physical condition to become a regular starter, said Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder after the striker scored for a second successive game to earn a point at West Ham.The £10m summer signing began from the bench for a sixthe Vikings' starting quarterback in the team's Monday night win over Chicago, Bradford didn't even make it to halftime. Zimmer yanked him from the game .

"He aggravated his injury when he got tackled on one of the plays," Zimmer said. "I just thought it was best for him that we got him out of there. He didn't want to come out. He wanted to stay in there and fight but I didn't want to get him injured anymore."

At one point in the second quarter against the Bears, things got so bad that Robert Griffin actually went on Twitter and implampard is prepared to see Danny Drinkwater depart. The Mirror says Lampard has told Chelsea flops Tiemoue Bakayoko and Drinkwater they can leave. Both midfielders were on the Blues' pre-season tour where new boss Lampard assessed their work and chancesored the Vikings to pull Bradford from the game.

With Bradford out for Sunday's game, that means will make his fourth start of the season. Although Keenum looked rusty back during a 26-9 loss to the in Week 2, he's continued to look better every time he's been on the field. After taking over for Bradford on Monday, Keenum led the Vikings to 17 points in a 20-17 win.

Minnesota's backup quarterback finished the game 17 of 21 for 140 yards and a touchdown.

Unfortunately for Keenum though, he'll be missing one of his favorite targets this week. Zimmer announced on Friday that won't be playing against the Packers. Diggs injured his groin in the second half of the Bears' game and didn't practice at all this week.

The loss of Diggs means Minnesota won't have its starting quarterback or leading receiver. Diggs has caught 23 passes for 395 yards and four touchdowns this season.

As for Bradford his injury woes started this season after he took a low hit in Week 1. Bradford , however, it was apparently difficult to tell how much damage there was because Bradford had so much scar tissue in his left knee. The quarterback's left knee has been surgically repaired twice due to two separate occasions where he tore his ACL.

  • Twitter reacts to NFL’s new policy requiring players to ‘respect’ national anthem

The NFL may have intended for its Wednesday announcement of a to appease both sides of a long-politically charged debate or at least slip quietly into the midweek news cycle, but that didn't happen in the slightest on social media.

While most team owners, save for the ' Jed York and the several who accompanied commissioner Roger Goodell to Wednesday's press conference revealing the policy, have kept quiet about the rule changes, many fans, reporters and former players have not.

The policy announcement, which comes just a day after the NFL finalized a that sted boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Axel Tuanzebe has impressed him in preseason training. After last season's loan with Aston Villa, Solskjaer insists the 21-year-old has a great chance to play at United and the manager believes Tuanzebe has already ptemmed from player protests in 2017, requires that players now stand and "show respect" during the singing or playing of pregame national anthems -- or stay off the field so as not to incur a league-imposed fine for their team. And the opinions on everything from its timing and implementation to its reasoning and effectiveness are divided, with one team chairman, the ' Christopher Johnson, already for any fines his players receive.

Here's a roundup of all the top tweets on the NFL's new policy:

For former NFL quarterback Sage Rosenfels, who echoed many of the same thoughts shared by the dozens of players who peacefully protested in 2017, the problems with the n Ham face being trumped by Real Betis for Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic. The Mirror says Mitrovic is on the verge of a move to Real Betis, who look set to beat West Ham to his signature.Mitrovic is on Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini's wish list ifew rules are aplenty.

It's a daily dose of football to get you right for that commute or gym trip.   |  |  |

Author Dan Wetzel -- and others -- agreed on the front of many fans outright ignoring the anthem at stadiums.

Others agreed with Rosenfels' point about the NFL, in 2009, making it a requirement for players to be on the field for the anthem in the first place, suggesting that people who say, "Protest on your own time," probably don't go to work where patriotism is enforced.

NBC News' Chuck Todd opined that the NFL's policy actually makes some sense from a business standpoint, perhaps because the owners want nothing more than to, as president Steve Keim put it on Wednesday, "get back to football." But he also suggested it comes off as another public misstep for a league trying to retain its fans (and money) and side with its players.

CBS Sports' Danny Kanell took an alternative approach and suggested a similar policy has worked well for the .

As others have pointed out, though, in many eyes, the NFL hasn't shown itself to be nearly as progressive in supporting player causes as the NBA, and basketball's anthem policy was reportedly also the product of a collective bargaining agreement -- not a decision made without the consent of the players association.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, for one, is a fan of the policy. And that's no surprise considering his counterpart, President Donald Trump, has long been the nation's leading voice against peaceful pregame protests, himself and first suggesting in September 2017 that NFL owners who use the anthem as a platform for promoting equality.

Intentional or not, PBS White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor -- and others -- said the policy gives Trump and Pence exactly what they've been wanting since over players' protests, all while upstaging some of the words of the national anthem.

The Philadelphia Daily News' Les Bowen, Quartz reporter Tim Fernholz and former NFL player Domonique Foxworth thought the NFL may have been better off avoiding any kind of announcement or rule change whatsoever since its own social activism deal -- and a decreasing number of protesters -- seemed to be bringing the issue to its own resolution.

Others, like SportsNet New York's Taylor Rooks, Sports Illustrated's Robert Klemko and Carolina Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith, said the new policy has merely reignited a false perception about the protests, which began in 2016 with former 49ers quarterback taking a knee to call attention to police brutality and racial injustice, painting players as "unpatriotic" rather thKieran Tierney is close to making a return at Arsenal with boss Mikel Arteta for the first time since the Spaniard took over last December. The 22-year-old signed from Celtic in the summer for £25million - a record fee for a Scottish player - and proan hungry for social progress.

Poorly executed or not, the National Review's Dan McLaughlin still thinks the NFL was within its rights to enact such a policy.

Others, going beyond the fact that the NFL mandated player appearances during the anthem in 2009, simply believe the league has acted out of fear of angering too many fans.

  • Chargers’ GM admits Antonio Gates would be ‘natural fit’ after losing Hunter Henry

The have a tight end problem after and is still a free agent after his contract with the Chargers expired this offseason. The match almost makes too much sense, right?

Chargers general manager Tom Telesco seemingly agrees. On Friday, Telesco participated in an online chat with fans on the team's website. When one fan, Jose Flores, asked Telesco about the possibility of bringing back Gates, , but declined to say if he planned on making it happen.

"Would be a natural fit, right?" he wrote. "I saw that Philip voted for it. When it comes to roster moves, we are not a democracy. But we are not a dictatorship either. His vote was noted and accounted for. Antonio's accomplishments and contributions to this organization are immeasurable. We wiltinho will not join Manchester United out of respect for Liverpool, according to reports.Barcelona are open to selling the Brazilian this summer as they look to fund other transfers. The Spanish giants have been unconvinced by Coutinho's productivity l see what the future holds. I don't have an update at this time."

Gates, who will tSouthampton have announced a multi-year partnership with Indian beer brand Kingfisher, which will now provide the matchday beer at all the team's home games, reports, /The Saints also welcomed Wow Hydrate as their new sports hydration partner after both parties signed a two-year deal.urn 38 later this month, has spent his entire 15-year, Hall-of-Fame career with the Chargers, racking up 927 catches, 11,508 receiving yards, and 114 touchdowns along the way -- all of which rank first in franchise history. But the two sides appeared to be heading toward a split this offseason.

Henry, who entered the fray as a second-round pick in 2016, has been slowly overtaking Gates as the Chargers' top tight end. Over the past two seasons, Henry has totaled 81 receptions, 1,057 yards, and 12 touchdowns while serving as a capable blocker, which is why  Meanwhile, Gates has collected 83 receptions, 864 yards, and 10 touchdowns in that span.

2018 was supposed to be the year the torch was officially passed. In April, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Gates wanted to keep playing, but would not be continuing his career with the Chargers.

Suddenly, though, in the aftermath of Henry's torn ACL, Gates returning to the Chargers almost makes too much sense. Even though his production has dipped in recent years as he's aged, his chemistry with remains unmatched (). At the very least, he can still be a capable red-zone weapon and possession type of receiver. If the deal is cheap enough, you have to believe the Chargers will bring him back. If they don't, their tight end group would likely be led by , who's never exceeded the 250-yard mark in a single season.

At this point in the offseason, no great replacemen United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has defended his players after Monday's penalty row.Solskjaer insists Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford are still sharing penalty duties at Manchester United , adding that "it's not like there's anarchy" at the club ovets for Henry exist. Gates is no longer a great option, but he's at least reliable. And it seems like the perfect way and place for Gates to end his career.
